“My heart, mind and ministry will never be the same as I begin to understand the heart and depth of the Ekklesia as Jesus taught and lived it”.
This was a comment shared with me by a fellow kingdom minister as the Expanding the Ekklesia Vortex Summit was concluding earlier this month. And I received many more comments saying the same thing. That’s what a touch from Holy Spirit and a glimpse of the kingdom of heaven does to you: it changes you forever.
As I share my observations from our amazing weekend together, I want you to see a picture of something that didn’t just happen; it is happening. I don’t want you to see an event; I want you to see an expression of a Holy Spirit-led movement that is transforming the body of Christ. The movement cannot be contained in a building or a gathering. Everything I share with you here is meant to illustrate something that’s much bigger and more wonderful than we can imagine.
It is the expanding of the church into its fullness,
as it flows into every sphere of the world around us.
We gathered atop the Globe and Mail Centre in downtown Toronto. Surrounded by glass walls, we could look out over the heart of the marketplace and across Lake Ontario. What a setting to invite God to change our perspective!
The diversity of the room was amazing: marketplace and ministry leaders, pulpit pastors attending, high-level business leaders, entrepreneurs, former gang members, millennials, intercessors, prayer ministry leaders, mainline and ethnic church leaders, First Nations leaders and many others all desiring one thing: more of God’s kingdom. Generations were represented too, from our passionate young leaders with Leadership Edge and FaithTech to a 92-year-old First Nations intercessor who has lived a life of ministering to those in need on the streets of Toronto.
As we prayed, heard testimony and listened to Dr. Ed Silvoso’s powerful teaching, God started to release a new vision and hope that “we can make a difference with the power of the Holy Spirit to impact and transform the nation of Canada and beyond.” The faculty for the summit were incredible in sharing how they were experiencing the Ekklesia in every aspect of activity and social interaction. Ed was amazing, as he envisioned, equipped and empowered us through the power of the Holy Spirit.
On Saturday night, the Holy Spirit-powered vortex started swirling.
Hearts and minds were transformed. Creativity and innovation was stirred.
It was like being immersed in a new baptism of the Holy Spirit.
Pastors, business leaders, intercessors all came up to me and shared that this Summit has impacted their heart and mind in a way they’d never experienced. They received renewed passion and vision to advance the Kingdom as Christ’s Ekklesia, both within the church and outside of it – into the very heart of their workplaces and the marketplace. A number of people shared that they could see their workplace office tower from the venue, and had been convicted to take the kingdom into their place of work.
One observation was really profound. From where we were, people noticed the multitude of office towers interspersed with a few church spires. They said that trying to fit all the people from all the office towers into those church buildings would be an impossible task. So instead, we need to take the church, or Ekklesia, to those office towers and high-rises so that people everywhere can have a power encounter with Almighty God and be forever transformed.
And just like this illustration, the Holy Spirit flowed beyond our Summit gathering. On Sunday, Ed preached two phenomenal Ekklesia messages at Catch The Fire that were live-streamed around the world and are available on their YouTube channel. And later in the week I was invited to speak at a prayer breakfast for Jesus in the City led by Ayanna Solomon. The focus on the Ekklesia was evident in every speaker: the 20,000 worshipers who will join the parade in September are the forerunners of 1-2 million workers who will see their “labour as worship” bringing the kingdom Ekklesia to every workplace and office tower in the GTA!
As this movement continues to expand, the TC team is now in a time of strategic prayer to discern our next steps in serving the needs of the Ekklesia locally and abroad. Please join us in prayer for next steps as a movement, and share your ideas and needs with us as we go through this process. And please continue to sow generously into the movement with your prayers, participation, and financial support!
